Cu Chi Tunnels, Cao Dai Great Temple, Mekong Delta Homestay and Ho Chi Minh City

Known as a hide-out for the infamous Viet Cong, the Mekong Delta of today is a thriving mix of people, colour and activity. Ho Chi Minh City is characterised by a vast variety of sights and sounds, from ancient pagodas, mosques and cathedrals to the former Presidential Palace and the War Museum; from historic Dong Khoi Street (the Rue Catinat from Graham Greene's novel 'The Quiet American') to the bustling markets of Ben Thanh and Cholon (Chinatown). This fascinating city is perfect for days of sightseeing, afternoons spent shopping and whiling away the twilight hours with a sunset drink at one of the nearby bars. The Mekong Delta, with its meandering waterways and flourishing daily life, is a place not to be missed. Riverbanks are laden with coconut palms, rice fields, orchards and stilted houses. The water is teeming with boats of all shapes and sizes and the Mekong comes alive as you cruise past fishing boats, cargo vessels and even floating houses.

Day 1Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon).Ho Chi Minh City is characterised by a vast variety of sights and sounds so if time permits, get out and start exploring.
Day 2Cu Chi Tunnels and Cua Dai TempleTake a trip to the Cu Chi Tunnels and Cao Dai temple. The Cu Chi tunnels played a vital part in the American war when they allowed the Viet Cong to control a large rural area only 30 to 40 km from Ho Chi Minh City.
Days 3-4 Mekong Delta boat trips and homestayThe Mekong Delta is referred to as Vietnam's 'ricebowl' where farmers produce coconuts, sugar cane, a wide variety of fruit, fresh seafood and, of course, rice! Take a boat ride along the river and canals through the lush green growth and stop at an orchard to try the local fruit. Spend the night at a local home on a house built on stilts over the water.
Day 5Depart Ho Chi Minh City.Take some time to stroll through Ho Chi Minh City for some last minute shopping!
