There are those who feel that 80 is too old to sail in a passenger freighter. In truth, many companies agree with this as do their insurance companies BUT there are still options if you are in excellent health and your doctor will attest to that.
We can supply trans-Atlantic passage from Chester, Pennsylvania or Richmond, Virginia to Antwerp, Belgium or Liverpool, England or back. If you have the time, you can do an uninterrupted round trip of 28 days. Double occupancy price for the entire 28 days is $4092 Canadian per person and includes private cabin with facilities, dining in the senior officers’ mess, steward service, lounge, snacks 24/7 and all port charges/fees and deviation insurance. You need to show proof of out-of-country hospital/medical insurance including emergency evacuation (sometimes called air ambulance) coverage. We can quote of this for Canadian residents.
If you really want to do it up right, we can offer a 126-day around-the-world voyage. The age limit is lower BUT the wholesaler will request an age-extension based on excellent medical reports from your doctor – one with deposit and one close to sailing.
This voyage is my personal favourite and draws good comments from passengers. It is partly general cargo, which means longer port times to explore. It is also partly tramp, which means its itinerary can change depending on the destination of the cargo. There are two port lists – ports usually called and ports sometimes called so there is an air of mystery, even after sailing!
Usual Ports
Hamburg - Antwerp - Genoa – Suez Canal - Jakarta - Singapore - Ho Chi Minh City – Hong Kong - Shanghai - Dalian - Xingang - Quingdao - Masan - Kobe - Yokohama - Long Beach – Panama Canal - Houston - New Orleans - Newport News - Camden – Hamburg
“Sometimes” Ports
Immingham, England, Chennai, India, Abu Dhabi, United Arabic Emirates Surabaya (Tanjung Perak), Indonesia, Tanjung Jati, Indonesia, Ko Sichang, Thailand Maptaphut, Thailand, Phu My, Vietnam, Haiphong, Vietnam, Kaohsiung, Taiwan Onsan, South Korea, Ulsan, South Korea, Yangpu, China, Fangcheng, China Inchon, South Korea, Ishigaki, Japan, Hitachi, Japan, Stockton, California, USA Long Beach, California, USA, Savannah, Georgia, USA, Baltimore, Maryland, USA New York, USA, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
Our clients usually sail Houston to Houston although Camden is sometimes possible. There are several visas required – China, India, Korea for example. The only advice from previous passengers is to obtain all of them before sailing. Some who tried to obtain visas and tourist cards at the ports faced long delays and high fees from port agents.
Passage costs less that $127 Canadian a day and includes private cabin with private facilities, dining in the senior officers’ mess, steward service, lounge, snacks 24/7 and all port charges/fees and deviation insurance. You need to show proof of out-of-country hospital/medical insurance including emergency evacuation (sometimes called air ambulance) coverage. We can quote of this for Canadian residents.
