Then to Trinity College, the seat of learning, where we see the famed 8th century Book of Kells. The remainder of the day is at leisure to explore or relax. (Full Breakfast) | | Day 4 | Killarney | We travel through the Curragh, the heart of Ireland's equestrian country. Then on to Blarney Castle to acquire the 'gift of the gab' by kissing the Blarney Stone! Then wander across to the Blarney Woollen Mills for fine traditional Irish knitwear. And on to bustling Killarney for the next three nights. (Full Breakfast / Dinner)Hotel: Killarney Plaza | | Day 5 | Killarney | Today we drive to the Dingle Peninsula, Ireland's most westerly point. Here majestic hills soar green and purple over unspoiled valleys, glittering mountain streams tumble down to lakes, and golden beaches stretch for miles. This is a Gaeltacht area, which is where the Irish language is preserved. We visit the Blasket Centre where we learn about the Blasket Islands, scene of many shipwrecks and once the home of a close knit fishing and farming community. Sadly, since 1953, the islands have been uninhabited. There is time to explore the town of Dingle before returning to Killarney. (Full Breakfast) | | Day 6 | Killarney | We stroll around the quaint artists village of Kenmare, situated at the mouth of the River Sheen. Then we enjoy breathtaking vistas as we journey to Glengarriff where we board a local boat for the short journey to Garnish Island. This small island was transformed into an exotic garden in 1910 by Harold Peto. Framed by views of Bantry Bay, the gardens are landscaped with neoclassical follies and planted with rich subtropical flora. Another added attraction of the boat trip to this Gulf Stream paradise is the chance to see cavorting seals in Bantry Bay! (Full Breakfast) | | Day 7 | Galway | This morning we cross the Shannon estuary by ferry and enter County Clare. We stop to walk along the Cliffs of Moher, rising 700 feet above the pounding Atlantic waves. Then we travel north across the Burren, a suddenly stark and barren landscape. We drop in for afternoon tea at Rathbaun Farm and meet an Irish farming family as they carry out their everyday chores. We watch as the farmer shears a sheep and controls his flock with the help of his trusty sheepdog. Next on to Galway, where we see the lovely Cathedral, and on to our hotel for the next three nights (Full Breakfast / Afternoon Tea / Dinner)Hotel: Connemara Coast | | Day 8 | Galway | A full day at leisure to explore Galway, shop or relax. Or you might want to take an optional excursion to the enchanted island of Inis Mor, the largest of the Aran Islands. Here you see the austere landscape crisscrossed with dry stonewalls, amazing coastal views and the ancient cliff fort of Dun Aengus with a breathtaking view of the Atlantic Ocean. Then to the main town, Kilronan, where there is time to explore the shops and maybe buy an Aran sweater. (Full Breakfast) | | Day 9 | Galway | Today we see the starkly beautiful mountains of Galway and Mayo which drop down to the coast, and the little white-washed cottages which are scattered over a beautiful land of mountains, brooks and rivers. We visit Kylemore Abbey, a castellated neo Gothic mansion, occupied by the Irish Benedictine community of nuns who came from Ypres after World War I. The balance of the day is at leisure. (Full Breakfast) | | Day 10 | Dublin | On the final touring day we travel across the fertile plains of Meath to Clonmacnoise, an ancient monastic site founded in AD 545 by St Ciaran.
