Your journey here will center around it's biggest and most attractive lake, Lake Windermere. The village of Windermere is a mile inland from the lake, spend your first day in this quaint little town, walk down to the lake or have a picnic at Fell Foot Park.Overnight: WindermereDay 3: Windermere There are a number of museums and visitor attractions that tell the story of the area's heritage, such as the Aquarium of the Lakes at Lakeside, which reveals the natural history of the region or travel to Bowness-on-Windermere and step into the world of Miss Potter and experience all 23 of her magical tales, brought to life using sights, sounds and even smells. A third town is Ambleside, it's a half-mile north from the lake and is a bustling town full of tea shops and restaurants to relax late in the afternoon.Overnight: WindermereDay 4: Hadrian's Wall On your journey north to Scotland, you will arrive in the town of Carlisle. Relax and visit it's compact historic center which includes; a castle, museum, cathedral, and semi-intact city walls. Here also lies Northern England's UNESCO World Heritage Site, Hadrian's Wall. Hadrian's Wall is a stone and turf fortification built by the Roman Empire across the width of Great Britain to prevent military raids by the tribes of Scotland to the north, to improve economic stability and provide peaceful conditions in the Roman province of Britannia to the south, and to physically mark the frontier of the Empire. Hadrian's Wall is the best known because it remains the most physically preserved and evident today. A significant portion of the wall still exists, particularly the mid-section, and for much of its length the wall can be followed on foot.Overnight: CarlisleDay 5: Journey on to Scotland Today's journey to Scotland leads you to Glasgow, which is one of the liveliest and most cosmopolitan destinations in Europe. The lead person named on the reservation must be the main driver, present at time of rental and payer of any additional charges with a minimum age of 25 years except for Luxury and Prestige vehicle groups which the minimum age is strictly 30 years old. A major credit card in the main driver's name is required for pickup of the vehicle as a car return guarantee. An authorization is obtained on your credit card based on the estimated rental charges; there must be sufficient credit on your card to cover all charges. Additional driver's fee is charged locally at time of car pickup. All drivers must present a valid USA driver's license held for a minimum of one year at the time of rental. Theft protection is included and additional insurance, such as Collision Damage Waiver and Personal Accident Insurance, is available at time of car pickup and is paid locally. Government tax (VAT) at the rate of 17.5% is included. A Vehicle Licensee Fee (VLF) apply to all rentals and a Location Service Charge will apply to all rentals with pick-up in airport/railway station or some downtown locations which are payable locally upon pick-up. Rentals will be charged an administration fee in case of traffic fines. Rates do not include fuel. All Hertz vehicles are rented with a full tank of fuel and must be returned with full tank of fuel or a local refueling charge will apply. Child seats are available on request from all locations. Luggage racks are currently not offered. Additional charges for one way rentals are based on location restrictions and the vehicle type being rented.
