Walking France: Dordogne Valley
The Dordogne, or Perigord, is located in the southwest region of France. It is easy to understand the appeal of this region and why it has been our most popular destination in France in the past. The combination of beautiful views, sleepy villages, fine French food and delicious wine makes it too appealing to resist. This is a stunning area scattered with dramatically situated castles, fortresses and cliff hugging villages that watch over the rivers that meander below. The Dordogne was one of the earliest cradles of civilization, and there are widespread prehistoric remains and reminders, including intriguing prehistoric cave paintings, mysterious grottoes and medieval villages with cobbled streets.
