Patient Rights & Directives
NAB Approved | 18 Ethics CEUs

Advance Directives
Patients have the constitutional right to make decisions regarding their own medical care. This right includes the right to refuse medical treatment, even if treatment is necessary to prevent the patient from dying. A patient's right to request that medical treatment be withheld or withdrawn does not change, even when the patient loses the capacity to make the request. An Advance Directive is a legal document intended to ensure that healthcare providers honor a patient's decisions regarding treatment, even when he or she is no longer able to communicate those decisions.  Topics include: Living Wills; Medical Power of Attorney; DNR Orders and Medical Treatment Plans.

End of Life
Death can be frightening. This can be especially true for patients in the terminal stages of chronic disease. These patients often wish for a 'good death.' However, they often fear that they will die alone, in pain, abandoned by their caregivers. Clinicians must provide excellent end-of-life care to all dying patients. In this way, clinicians can help patients have a 'good death', calm the fears of dying patients and support the patient's family.  Topics include: Curative vs. Palliative Care; Barriers to Adequate Palliative Care; Addressing the needs of the dying Patient; and Addressing the needs of the Family.

Morals in Patient Care

This course will help you understand what you should and should not do as a healthcare provider and how to do your job in a moral way. You will learn about the four basic principles for healthcare providers and specific issues in healthcare today. Topics include: Patient-Provider Relationship; Near the End-of-Life Issues; and Practice, Society & Colleagues.

NAB Approved | 20 CEUs

Fire Safety
Residents in healthcare facilities often suffer from physical and/or mental conditions that prevent them from protecting themselves. For this reason, fires in healthcare facilities are particularly dangerous. With proper fire safety awareness, you can help prevent fire-related danger by taking steps to prevent fires in your facility. With adequate fire-response training, you can help minimize potential fire-related injury and loss of life, by knowing what to do in the event of a fire.  Topics include: Fire Prevention; Facility Safeguards; and Fire Response.

Back Safety
The healthcare environment is a high-risk area for back pain and injury. Nursing personnel and aides suffer more back injuries and other musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) than does any other occupation, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). Fortunately, proper posture, body mechanics, and regular exercise, along with appropriate use of lifting equipment and devices, can help reduce the risk of back injury for healthcare providers.  Topics include: Spinal Anatomy & Physiology; Safe Operation of the Spine; and Preventive Maintenance & Corrective Action.

Legacy Leadership Series
NAB Approved | 24 CEUs
Over their many years in the healthcare business, Gary Stroud & Stephen Marek have observed an obvious divide between the words companies use to describe their workplace environments and the actual results many location mangers are able to achieve. Oftentimes, it is easier to terminate marginal performers than to educate, replacing them with the hope of achieving success through a new leader. It is much more difficult to allocate time and resources to ensure that workplace success is woven into the DNA of an organization.
