Mediation The Courts in Central Texas generally require that, before
a serious, protracted family law matter can go to trial, the parties mediate their dispute before a mediator. This process became popular and obligatory in Texas about ten years ago. Usually, each party appears with his or her attorney in the mediator's office, where an attempt is made to settle all of the issues in dispute. Greg Gegenheimer is a certified mediator with an Advanced Certification in Family Law. The skills required for a successful mediation are different from, but just as subtle as, those required to try a lawsuit in court. The pace is much slower, but the results are usually much more satisfying. When parties settle a case in mediation, they retain control over the outcome of the case. When a case is tried before a court, that control is surrendered to the judge or jury. Having tried hundreds of disputes before the court, Greg
Gegenheimer is able to evaluate the likely outcome at trial. This provides a backstop for negotiations, and sets the framework for a favorable settlement.
Testimonials
"My divorce became final last week and I wanted to thank you for all you did to make that happen. Thinking back on the mediation, I am just amazed at what an incredible job you did and how much effort you put into it. I never thought that Jack and I would be able to reach an agreement, but we did, all thanks to you. Thank you." |
