The canyon forms part of a nature reserve, inhabited by various species of antelope, wild cat and birds, including the eagle, ibis, parrot and loerie. Viewing sites are provided along the length of the canyon and there are numerous walks, hiking, horse and mountain bike trails.

Here, magical waterfalls spill down the escarpment, and with names like Lone Creek, Horse Shoe and Bridal Veil, a stopover at one of these cascades for a dip into the crystal clear waters, will refresh the body and mind.

At God's Window on the Escarpment, majestic cliffs plunge over 700 meters to the Lowveld and the game reserves, which have made the area one of Africa's prime wildlife destinations. A 250km long rampart of sheer cliffs - it indeed seems as if one can see forever! With its magnificent views, rock formations, canyons and waterfalls, the Lowveld Escarpment is truly an area of breathtaking scenic grandeur.

Continue to the romantic and historic gold-rush town of Pilgrim's Rest. The entire village is a historical monument and has been preserved in the architectural style of the years between 1880 to 1915. View Mac waterfalls and continue on to Sabie town.

Sabie originated as another gold rush town, all from a fortuitous discovery during a picnic in 1895, when bottle shooting practice revealed gold specs in the rock where the bullets had glanced off. From the summit of Long Tom pass, the Sabi River flows through a handsome valley to a waterfall where the town has been built. The river's name is from the Shangaan word meaning 'fearful' referring to the crocodiles and sudden floods that formerly made this river dangerous. Nowadays the trout fishermen are attracted to its fast flowing waters. Arrive in Sabie for overnight. (B)

It starts at the picturesque fishing harbor of Hout Bay and then winds up to Chapman's Point, revealing breathtaking views of the sandy bays down below.

A trip to Cape Point is a must for any Cape Town visitor, once there you can either walk or take a railway. 120 steps crafted from natural stone lead to the old lighthouse on the Cape Point Peak, 250 meters above sea level. One can see the Cape of Good Hope in the west from there. A hiking trail of 1 hour length (one way) links the two capes, the Cape of Good Hope and Cape Point.

On your return to Cape Town a short visit to the Penguins located in a large beach area called Boulders Beach. It is frequented by a large colony of African Penguins (also known as the Jackass Penguin). Boulder's Beach is also one of only two places where jackass penguins can be seen on a mainland coast. They are usually found on small islands around the coast of Southern Africa.

Drive through Simon Town, an English seaside town with intricate Victorian wrought iron balustrades. Enticing alley ways lead up to whitewashed houses on the hillside which overlook a charming waterfront complex and the False Bay Yacht Club alongside extensive Navy buildings. Along the False Bay coast road from Simon's Town lies the placid town of Fish Hoek. Most of the residents are retired but it still has a busy main street with market stalls competing with shoppers on the pavements. Continuing on to Muizenberg, once a military base. In 1795 the British defeated the Dutch in the Battle of Muizenberg. At the beginning of the 20th century Muizenberg became a prestigious seaside resort for affluent Capetonians. The grand mansions along the beach promenade are monuments of the former wealth of Muizenberg.
