Northwest Airlines announced today it will begin charging a $15.00 USD "Call Center Assistance Fee" to customers who call to request a seat assignment for an existing reservation.

Travelers who do not wish to incur this fee for seat assignment  requests can obtain seat assignments free of charge by contacting Travel One, or nwa.com.

The “Call Center Assistance Fee” is in addition to any other applicable fees such as an administrative fee (change fee), or excess baggage fee.

In addition, the “Call Center Assistance Fee” would not apply to the following:

     -  Involuntary changes as a result of a schedule change or irregular operations
     -  Tickets booked in First Class, Business Class, or Full Coach
     -  If a traveler is booked on a WorldPerks upgrade or certificate upgrade
     -  A Platinum or Gold Elite member plus all others traveling in the same reservation
     -  Unaccompanied Minors
     -  Disability Seats
