United Airlines Baggage Policy Change
Effective with tickets purchased today for travel on or after May 5, 2008, United Airlines has implemented a new baggage policy.  The policy applies to those traveling within the U.S. or to/from Canada, San Juan, or St. Thomas.

Travelers using non-refundable fares and not holding preferred status within Mileage Plus or another Star Alliance carrier program equivalent will be permitted only one free checked bag.  A second bag may be checked for $25.  For all customers, the fee for the third or fourth bags would be $100.

Please note that there is no charge in the current policy for elite status travelers of United or other Star Alliance carriers, or those without status traveling in First or Business Class or Economy Class with fully refundable fares.

U.S. Passport Card Application Accepted Beginning February 1, 2008
U.S. citizens may begin applying in advance for the new U.S. Passport Card.  The cards will be available and mailed to applicants in Spring 2008.

The passport card will facilitate entry and expedite document processing at U.S. land and sea ports-of-entry when arriving from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda.  The card may NOT be used to travel by air.
