Turkey offers an intoxicating mix of sights and experiences from oriental splendour and intrigue to whirling dervishes and a spicy hotchpotch of history. There is much to discover - from ruined Byzantine monasteries, ancient Roman baths, towering Greek amphitheatres and Sultan's harems to paying respects at Gallipoli or shopping for magnificent carpets. This is certainly a land of veritable treasures waiting to be uncovered. Our Turkish tour leaders are fantastic and knowledgeable travelling companions who will introduce us to the best cultural and culinary wonders, as well as bring the ancient world back to life for us. Our adventure begins and ends in Istanbul, formerly a fabled capital that went by the names Byzantium and Constantinople. With so much to see and do this trip is sure to fill your appetite.

What's It Like?
Gecko's adventures offer authentic experiences and a genuine alternative to backpacking. Our trips are designed for younger travelers on a budget but do include the entrance fees to the "must see" sights while not wasting your money on unnecessary frills. Itineraries utilize public transport and basic twin share accommodations in small locally owned hotels, the occasional multi-share, or simply floor space in a jungle or village hut. Many trips involve some physical activity, the occasional long traveling day and you will need to carry your own bags. On camping trips, meals are freshly prepared by our camp cook, but expect to put up and take down your tent, and assist with camp chores. On all trips we only use local tour leaders who are passionate about their homeland. This is travel, grassroots style - basic but rewarding.
Included: An experienced English-speaking local leader, all transportation, accommodation, meals and sightseeing as indicated.
Not Included: International flights, local payment, arrival and departure transfers, airport/departure taxes, entrance fees for optional sites, visas, pre-tour or post-tour accommodation, additional meals, drinks, optional sightseeing tours, travel insurance, tips, laundry and other items of a personal nature.
Meals: Allow US$325/EUR225 for additional meals. Although breakfasts are included, we allow you the flexibility to go out and make your own choices as far as what and where to eat. Your tour leader will always be on hand to offer recommendations and, in some places, he will help organise a group meal that includes a variety of local specialities; all such meals are optional.
