    Day 1Mexico CityMexico City : We depart on our flight to Mexico City. Upon arrival, our guide greets us and takes us to our hotel where we enjoy dinner. Overnight in Mexico City. (D)
    Day 2Mexico CityMexico City : Mexico City We begin the day with a visit to the Museum of Anthropology - one of the most beautiful museums of its type in the world. Continue through Chapultepec Park, passing by the exclusive deluxe residential section of Las Lomas to see many beautiful homes of the wealthy. Continue along Reforma Blvd, the city's most beautiful avenue, leading from Chapultepec Castle all the way to the Historic Centre. Pass Alameda Park and the Palace of Fine Arts enroute to the Zocalo - the Main Square. We will see the Metropolitan Cathedral and the ruins of Templo Mayor, and visit the National Palace to see the famous murals of Diego Rivera, depicting the history of Mexico. Lunch overlooking the plaza. Return to the hotel in the afternoon. Dinner and evening on our own, after which we may attend the famous Mexican Folklore Ballet at the Palace of Fine Arts (optional - at additional cost). (B,L)
    Day 3Mexico CityMexico City : Begin our day with a stop at The Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe, continuing on to the Pyramids of Teotihuacan. We will see and maybe climb the Pyramid to the Sun, the Moon and Temple of Quetzal-butterfly. Buffet lunch is served at a local restaurant with Mexican decor, and live music. Evening at leisure.     Day 4MeridaMerida : Depart for an early morning flight to Merida. Transfer to our hotel where we will have lunch. Travel to Uxmal, the greatest metropolitan and religious center in the Puuc hills of Yucatan during the late Classical period, flourishing between the 7th and 10th centuries A.D. Uxmal translates as "thrice built" and, whatever the actual number, the numerous building phases are reflected in a variety of architectural styles. See the Nunnery, the Pyramid of the Magician, Palace of the Governors, etc. Tonight's dinner will be before the memorable Light and Sound presentation. Return to Merida for overnight. (B,L,D)
    Day 5MeridaMerida : This morning we will participate in a Pilgrimage to nearby Izamal where Pope John Paul visited the people of the Yucatan during his memorable trip in 1993. In commemoration his statue is found in the atrium of the Franciscan Church dedicated to Our Lady of Izamal, Patron Saint of the Yucatan. This delightful and unique colonial town is known as the â??yellow cityâ? since all its buildings as well as the convent are painted in ochre yellow. Lunch at a local restaurant prior to returning to Merida in the afternoon. Afternoon city tour of Merida, the â??white city.â? A number of millionaires who became wealthy with the production of henequen (or sisal) cultivated in this area around the turn of the last century built their mansions along the beautiful Paseo Montejo. Many have been refurbished and now house the offices of affluent businesses. Continuing to the central plaza, we will have a walking tour of the XVI Century Cathedral of San lldefonso, built with stones dismantled from the pyramids by Francisco de Montejo who conquered the city of Merida. We will see the Government Palace, Municipal Palace and Casa Montejo, former home of the conqueror of Yucatan. Time for shopping in the myriad of shops along the nearby streets. Enjoy the atmosphere of the lively local people and their â??trovaâ? music as you stroll along the cobblestone streets and alleys. Dinner on our own. (B,L)
    Day 6MeridaMerida : Today after early breakfast, depart for a 2 hour drive to Chichen Itza, most famous of all the Mayan archeological sites. "Chichen Viejo" or "old Chichen" was founded about 400 AD by the Maya and governed by priests. Here the architecture is characterized by many representations of the god Chaac, the Mayan rain god. "Chichen Nuevo" began about 850 AD with the arrival of the Itzá from Central Mexico. The city was rebuilt by the Itzá and is characterized by images of the god Kukulcán, the plumed serpent. Around 1150 AD a new wave of Itzá took over the city and ruled for another 150 years until Chichen Itzá was finally overtaken by the rival city of Mayapan by about the year 1400. See the Temple to Kukulcán, the Observatory, the ball court and the Church. Lunch is included at a local restaurant with time for swimming in the transparent waters of a cenote (swimming hole) prior to returning to Merida for overnight. (B,L)
    Day 7New YorkNew York, NY : Transfer to the airport for our flight home. We arrive home the same day with memories of our neighboring country Mexico. (B)
