Enjoy time at leisure to relax or to do some independent exploring. Your Tour Director is on hand this evening to answer any questions. | | Day 2 | Boston | Boston's numerous landmarks reflect the important part the city played in the history of the United States. Many of these sites are included on your guided morning tour: Faneuil Hall, Old North Church (where Paul Revere was signaled of the departure of British troops to Lexington), and Boston Common. The afternoon has been set aside for independent activities. Your Tour Director will have plenty of suggestions for things to do and see. | | Day 3 | Boothbay Harbor | Just north of Boston there's a glorious little corner of Maine where lobstermen still command the sea and where the time-warp charm of New England's Old World fishing villages takes us back to simpler times. Enjoy a visit to Kennebunkport, the summer retreat of many artists and writers who have found the picturesque setting conducive to creativity. Upon arrival in Portland, enjoy a city sightseeing tour that includes Portland Head Lighthouse, the popular landmark which first shone its light in 1791 shows off this beautiful coastal region. Stroll the cobblestone streets of Portland's famous Old Port Exchange. Afterward, continue to Boothbay Harbor, rich in history and your home for the next two nights. | | Day 4 | Boothbay Harbor | A full day at leisure to discover why Boothbay Harbor is the soul of Maine's coast. Explore picturesque downtown Boothbay Harbor with its unique shops and handcrafted goods. Work up an appetite for this evening's optional lobster bake by taking a walk along the rocky shoreline. Perhaps an afternoon cruise past summer colonies, lighthouses, small islands, and sunbathing seals would be of interest. If you choose, relax dockside and watch the harbor bustling with fishing vessels and pleasure crafts in equal numbers-nothing beats the sight of the schooners heading in from an afternoon trip with their sails bathed in the rosy light of a spectacular sunset. Later tonight, join your fellow travelers for a delicious optional lobster dinner featuring the fresh native lobster for which coastal Maine is renowned. (B) | | Day 5 | North Conway | This morning, visit the town of Freeport, the 'Birthplace of Maine' and home to L.L. Bean. Afterward, head to the fabulous White Mountains of New Hampshire. Admire the land of covered bridges, quaint towns, and forests noted for their foliage of contrasting colors in the fall. In Shelburne, explore on your own or join the optional tram ride up Wildcat Mountain. A brief stop in Jackson, New Hampshire, to photograph the Honeymoon Bridge before continuing to North Conway, known for its beauty and quaintness. (B) | | Day 6 | Burlington | Depart for a beautiful drive along the renowned Kancamagus Scenic Byway. Hugging the Connecticut River, head south to Hanover, where you will see the Dartmouth College campus, one of the nation's eight prestigious Ivy League institutions. Cross the river into Vermont and look forward to two more sightseeing stops on the way to Burlington. First, visit the nearby BILLINGS FARM & MUSEUM, a living museum of Vermont's rural past as well as a working dairy farm. End the day with a visit to Woodstock, a village noted for its well-preserved homes and charming village green. Our overnight is in Burlington, located on the shores of Lake Champlain and once home to patriot Ethan Allen. Tonight you may choose to visit Church Street in Burlington, often referred to as the 'Queen of Lake Champlain' and known for its quintessential charm and architectural beauty. | | Day 7 | Hyannis | This morning begins with a view of Lake Champlain, situated in the Champlain Valley between the Green Mountains of Vermont and the Adirondack Mountains of New York. Afterward, stop in Montpelier, Vermont's picturesque capital city. Visit a nearby MAPLE SYRUP FARM before proceeding to Concord, New Hampshire's capital and financial center, for lunch. Continue to the Cape Cod resort town of Hyannis. This evening is at leisure for independent activities. | | Day 8 | Hyannis | Today is free for independent activities. Take a ferry ride to Nantucket Island, one of the most unique, historic, and visually stunning places in the world. Originally a booming whaling port, Nantucket has been named a National Historic District and has architecturally changed little since the 17th century. Seaside cottages and old-fashioned lamps still line its streets. Sign on for a guided tour of the island or pick up a picnic lunch and rent a bike, a good way to discover Nantucket on your own. Walk the cobblestone streets and take in the boutique shops or explore the art galleries and museums. | | Day 9 | Boston | This morning begins with a harbor cruise, which gives you the chance to see the famous Kennedy Compound. Afterward, leave Hyannis for Plymouth-where it all began. After a photo stop at Plymouth Rock, continue to PLIMOTH PLANTATION, where costumed interpreters portray the early 17th-century lifestyle. Check into the Hampton Inn & Suites Boston Crosstown for the next two nights. | | Day 10 | Boston | A full day to explore this historic city, birthplace of the American Revolution. Walk the Freedom Trail, visit Quincy Market, and see a replica of the famous Tea Party Ship. | | Day 11 | Boston | The trip ends today with guests departing on individual schedules. Air booked in conjunction with a land vacation is considered an air-inclusive vacation. For vacation departures in 2010, your final air-inclusive vacation price is guaranteed when your air schedule had been confirmed and your entire vacation package has been paid in full. For vacation departures in 2009, an additional $250 non-refundable deposit (total $500 non-refundable) is required for air booked in conjunction with any land vacation and your final air-inclusive vacation price is guaranteed when your flight information is confirmed and Globus has received your full land and air deposit.
