We will see the ex-Hacienda of San Gabriel, with its outstanding XVII Century art and furniture collection. Visit the Church of La Compania de Jesus, or Society of Jesus, the best example of golden age architecture in Guanajuato, marking the most mature stage of churrigueresque design in New Spain. Construction began in 1747 and completed in 1765 under the patronage of the Jesuit priest Jose de Sardaneta, brother of the first Marquis of Rayas. Beautifully restored religious paintings can be seen in the sacristy. Lunch on our own. Tonight, our walking tour of downtown will include dinner at a sidewalk cafe at Jardin Union, where we might see "estudiantina," Guanajuato's minstrel groups in traditional renaissance costumes strolling along the streets.
