As one of the original Australian landing sites, and later the Japanese base for the surge to Port Moresby, this small town has great significance for military historians. In more recent years its fate was turned by still-smouldering Tavurvur volcano. Here you can explore a modern Pompeii, a once vibrant Pacific community lies buried under metres of ash. But the heart of the old Rabaul beats on in tranquil Kokopo, with colourful local markets and beautiful coral reefs to explore at your leisure.

Day 1 Arrive Rabaul and transfer to beachside resort at Kokopo2 Full day tour of Rabaul and Kokopo, including local war history and Tavurvur volcano. 3 Free day at resort with optional diving, snorkelling and fishing available. Spectacular fire walk show in the evening.4 Depart Rabaul.
