Hotel: Vorota (3 nights) | | Day 3 & 4 | St. Petersburg | St. Petersburg sightseeing and at leisure : This morning our guided sightseeing tour features the Tsar's Winter Palace, Nevsky Prospekt, St. Isaac's Cathedral, the statue of Peter the Great and a visit of the Peter and Paul Fortress. During our time in St. Petersburg, we will also enjoy an included visit to the Hermitage Museum to see one of the world's largest and most valuable art collections. The Hermitage occupies five magnificent buildings situated along the embankment of the River Neva, right in the heart of St. Petersburg. Put together throughout two and a half centuries, the Hermitage collections of works of art, which numbers over 3,000,000 items, present the development of world culture and art from the Stone Age to the 20th century. On one of our free evenings, maybe visit a theater to see a Russian folklore show? (Buffet breakfast / Buffet breakfast) | | Day 5 | Novgorod | St. Petersburg - Novgorod : This afternoon our journey takes us over the vast Russian plains to ancient Novgorod, which was one of the greatest international trade centers on the Baltic-Volga commercial route which tied northern Europe with Asia as early as in the mid 8th century. On our arrival, an orientation tour shows us the Kremlin Fort and grounds, the Millennium Monument and St. Sophia's Cathedral which is the oldest surviving stone structure in Russia dating from 1045. It is renowned for the famous icon of the 12th century, the Virgin of the Sign, which was returned back to the cathedral in 1991 when divine services were resumed. Tonight we enjoy dinner in our hotel. (Buffet breakfast / Dinner)
Hotel: Beresta Palace | | Day 6 | Moscow | Novgorod - Tver - Moscow (3 nights) : This morning after breakfast a scenic drive will bring us to the region of Tver which was once the capital of a powerful medieval state and a model provincial town in Imperial Russia. It is located at the confluence of the Volga and Tvertsa rivers and we will enjoy our lunch in this region. Then we continue to Klin, once the home of the great composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. It was here that the composer created his famous ballets The Sleeping Beauty and The Nutcracker. Then we journey onto Moscow for our three-night stay. Moscow is the capital and the largest city of Russia and the largest city in Europe with its metropolitan area ranking among the largest urban areas in the world. Moscow is the country's political, economic, religious, financial, educational and transportation center. It is located on the Moskva River and it was the capital of the former Soviet Union. The city is now a major economic center and is home to the largest number of billionaires in the world. In 2007, Moscow was named the world's most expensive city for the second year in a row. Tonight we have dinner in our hotel and look forward to our exploration of this fascinating city over the next two days. (Buffet breakfast / Lunch / Dinner)
Hotel: Marriott Tverskaya (3 nights) | | Day 7 & 8 | Moscow | Moscow sightseeing and at leisure : Our featured sightseeing tour shows us Red Square, St. Basil's domed cathedral and the Kremlin Walls. Later, enjoy time on your own to shop or further explore before returning to your hotel. Perhaps in your free time take an excursion to Zagorsk, which has been regarded for many centuries as the largest religious and cultural center in Russia. Here you can see examples of the work of the great masters of religious icons displayed in the churches and monasteries. During our stay in Moscow, our Tour Director will show us a Hidden Treasure of this intriguing and fascinating city. On our final night we enjoy a Farewell Dinner with our Tour Director and fellow travelers in a local restaurant to celebrate the end of our tour.
