A Musical, Historical & Culinary Bus Excursion from Memphis to Mississippi discovering the Roots of the Blues, along The Delta Highway.
Your tour of Memphis will cover the Freedmen Schools, Graceland, Beale Street (formerly known as the main street of Black America, WC Handy's House, The National Civil Rights Museum (The Lorraine Motel where MLK, Jr. was assassinated), Slavehaven (part of the Underground Railroad), Sun Record's (Elvis' Studio), along with the Stax Museum of American Soul Music which launched some of the legendary artist like Isaac Hayes, Otis Redding, The Emotions, The Staples Singers, Wilson Pickett, The Dramatics, Johnnie Taylor...
As we travel down the orginal Blues Highway 61, our 1st stop is at "The Crossroads" of Highway 61 & 49 where Bluesman Robert Johnson, allegedly sold his soul to the devil for the ability to play the guitar like a genuis and master the Blues. Continuing on the Blues Highway, we arrive in Clarksdale, Mississippi; which was home to Sam Cooke, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Ike Turner and the Juke Joint Festival. Your tour includes a 2 day festival pass for the city tour of Clarksdale; the hop on & off the bus transportation and entrance to all 12 Juke Joints, including Ground Zero (owned by Morgan Freeman) and one of the last remaining original Juke Joint's, Red's Lounge. Your pass also covers the art & folk festival.
We continue further south on the Blues Highway and we make a stop at BB King's Museum and Interpretive Center in his hometown of Indianola, Mississippi before proceeding onto Greenville, Ms. Upon arrival we'll tour Greenville's Historic Downtown; visit Kermit the Frog and the home of the Muppets creator Jim Henson; the Cotton Row and Greenville's Blues Walk on Walnut Street.
Today we start to go north to Tunica, Mississippi. While in route we'll stop along the Hot Tamale Trail to sample some of these specialities before we arrive at Harrah's Casino Resort on the Mighty Mississippi River. For those that want another night on Beale Street, it'll be ample time to hang out after we enjoy a farewell supper at the Neely's BBQ Restaurant.
Your tour will include 6 nights hotel accommodations, 4 breakfasts, 1 lunch, 1 brunch, 2 dinners, an air-conditioned motorcoach, airport transfers (designated arrival & departure times), knowledgeable guides, noted tours & museum entrances, Juke Joint Festival passes, baggage handling along with all applicable taxes and fees.
