Leave the highway and enter the Chianti wine area. Visit VERRAZZANO CASTLE, where you will hear about the fine art of blending four types of grapes to obtain the famous Chianti, and enjoy WINE TASTING and lunch. Continue to charming San Gimignano with its medieval towers, and join your Tour Director for an orientation of this pretty town. (B,L,D) | | Day 6 | Florence | All day is dedicated to Florence, 'Cradle of the Renaissance.' Follow your Local Guide to the ACADEMY OF FINE ARTS with Michelangelo's celebrated David and the magnificent CATHEDRAL. Admire Giotto's Bell Tower, the Baptistry's heavy bronze 'Gate of Paradise,' and sculpture-studded SIGNORIA SQUARE. Time for independent sightseeing and browsing through the shops. Your guided walking tour takes you inside its historic ramparts to the PIAZZA DEL CAMPO, famous for the twice-yearly festival, the Palio. Enjoy free time here, then, the highlight of your day: an OLIVE OIL TASTING. Return to San Gimignano with enough time to relax at the pool. In the evening, an optional excursion is available to Volterra, beautifully located on top of a rocky plateau. (B) | | Day 8 | Venice | A scenic drive through the Apennine Mountains and the fertile Po area to Padua, city of St. Anthony, for a visit to the majestic six-domed BASILICA. In the afternoon, a scenic drive following the Brenta Canal brings you to Venice. Enter in style by PRIVATE BOAT. You may want to join an optional dinner tonight. (B) | | Day 9 | Venice | Highlights of your walking tour with a Local Guide are ST. MARK'S SQUARE and the byzantine BASILICA, lavish DOGES' PALACE and the BRIDGE OF SIGHS. Air booked in conjunction with a land vacation is considered an air-inclusive vacation. Air can only be booked by Globus in conjunction with a land package and is only available for passengers traveling from the United States. For vacation departures in 2010, your final air-inclusive vacation price is guaranteed when your air schedule had been confirmed and your entire vacation package has been paid in full. For vacation departures in 2010, an additional $250 non-refundable deposit (total $500 non-refundable) is required for air booked in conjunction with any land vacation and your final air-inclusive vacation price is guaranteed when your flight information is confirmed and Globus has received your full land and air deposit.
