New carry -on baggage restrictions are now in place at U.S. Airports. Here are some tips to help ensure a hassle-free travel experience. The following are permitted and prohibited items allowed in carry-on baggage as of December 1, 2005 by the
Transportation Security Administration (TSA) for the traveling public. Travelers should also be advise to check the TSA website for updates prior to traveling.
Permitted

Cuticle cutters, nail clippers, nail files, safety razors and tweezers

Corkscrews. cigar cutters, eye glass repair tools (including screwdrivers)

Knitting and crochet needles

Toiletries with aerosols, in limited quantities

Scissors - plastic or metal with blunt tips

Scissors - metal with pointed tips and blades LESS than four inches

Umbrellas and walking canes - after they have been inspected by TSA

Tools, such as screwdrives, wrenches and pliers, if seven inches or less
Prohibited

Knives of any kind - prohibited in carry-on

Lighters, lighter fluid and strike-anywhere matches (up to 4 books of safety matches are permitted in carry-on luggage)

Mace or pepper spray

Box cutters, ice picks, utility knives, meat cleavers, swords and sabers

Scissors - metal with pointed tips and blades longer than four inches

Baseball bats, bows and arrows, cricket bats, golf clubs, hockey sticks, lacrosse sticks, pool cues, ski poles and spear guns

BB guns, flare guns, gun lighters, gun powder, pellet guns and starter pistols

Firearms, compressed air guns and realistic replicas of firearms

Hammers, drills, saws, crowbars, axes and hatchets and cattle prods

Tools - greater than seven inches in length

Billy clubs, black jacks, brass knuckles and martial arts weapons
