High Plains Highlights - 2010/11 Itinerary

- Ride Route 66 & explore the breath-taking Grand Canyon
- Travel back to the "wild west" at Monument Valley
- Explore the remarkable rock forms at Bryce and Zion

Route 66 & Grand Canyon
Leaving Las Vegas we are struck by the contrast of the bustling city to the stark desert around. Crossing the Hoover Dam we continue along Route 66 and the memorabilia filled town of Williams before striking north to the south rim of the Grand Canyon where we have time to walk and explore.

Monument Valley
Entering Navajo Reservation Land we stop off to admire the classic panorama of Monument Valley, its eroded tabletop mountains silhouetted against the sky. The entire area is a giant showcase for the power and beauty of the forces of nature.

Bryce & Zion NP
Leaving Arizona, we cross the Colorado River into Utah. We pause on the way to admire the dramatic sandstone slots of Antelope Canyon near the impressive 125m high Glen Canyon Dam. It is difficult to prepare oneself for the psychedelic wind-eroded landforms of Bryce, and the contrast between this parched environment and the oasis of Zion NP - a huge gorge with cliffs thousands of feet high, framing the rock pools and waterfalls of the valley below.
