Castles of Sinaia & Bran
Wasting no time, we head straight into the forested mountains of Transylvania, home to European brown bear, wolf, wild boar, red deer and lynx - and, of course, the infamous creature of film legend - Dracula. From our comfy village guesthouse in Moeciu we start with a visit to the contrasting fairy tale castles of Peles and Pelisor in nearby Sinaia, and strike out on foot to explore the extensive castle grounds and forests. Then, heading deeper into the backwaters of Transylvania, we pause to visit imposing Bran Castle (mythically linked with Vlad "The Impaler") en route to the well-preserved Saxon town of Brasov.
Forest Walks & Medieval Brasov
We set off on foot into a forest reserve accompanied by a local carnivore expert who will introduce us to the world of the regions elusive large mammals. After a tour of Brasov and its famous Black Church, we have the afternoon at leisure. For our final night we return to Bucharest for a city tour and a visit to the imposing Casa Poporului (Ceausescu's Palace). The excellent open air village museum provides a fascinating cultural insight into Romanian by gone days (optional).
