An exhilarating crossing of Morocco's greatest mountains - from the forested valleys and olive groves of the Middle Atlas we climb to the mountain lakes of the high plateau before descending the palm-fringed gorges and southern slopes of the High Atlas past kasbahs and ksours. Involving some of our most demanding riding and optional long climbs, this tour suits those with reasonable fitness and some previous experience of riding in the mountains. Rewarded with stunning scenery we enjoy local hospitality each evening staying at auberges, gites and local houses in remote berber villages.
Marrakech & Middle Atlas
This classic cycling tour begins in the vibrant city of Marrakech, with its bustling souks and narrow alleyways, alive with the smells, colour and chaos reminiscent of the heady days of the 'Arabian Nights'. Crossing the Haouz Plain we head into the lands of the 'Lords of the Atlas', cycling through lands traditionally held by the Zaiane Berbers as we make our way towards the small town of Ait Sidi Hsaine. Climbing next up to the Imilchil lake plateau we visit lakes Tislit and Isli, before negotiating the pass at Tizi n'Ouertz (2800m) and descending towards the fertile landscapes of the Melloul Valley.
High Atlas & Dades Valley
Crossing desert plateaux we then head for the dramatic fissures of the Dades Gorge, passing Berber settlements and groves of almonds and walnuts as we explore the captivating landscapes and kasbahs of the northern end of the Dades Valley. From the small mountain village of Ait Oudinar we'll follow the Dades River south, passing through the town of Bou Trarar and entering the beautiful landscapes of the Valley of the Roses, before ending our biking adventure in the town of El Kelaa Mgouna and the 'Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs'.
