This is a great introductory safari to east Africa, focusing on the Great Rift Valley lakes region of Kenya. The superb game parks of Masai Mara and Lake Nakuru provide countless wildlife experiences, whilst the freshwater Lake Naivasha provides a further opportunity to view some of the largest concentrations of bird life in the world. The equatorial region incorporating the snow-capped Mount Kenya provides incredible vistas along with a range of unique wildlife, notably birds, and colonial history.
This safari begins with on vast open grasslands of Masai Mara, which plays host to the greatest migration of wildlife in the world. Two nights here in our special tented camp allows for a full day's visit to Masai Mara to participate in its exciting game-viewing opportunities. From the majesty of 'the Mara' we travel to Kenya's most famous body of freshwater - Lake Naivasha. This lake is home to an incredible variety of bird species, as well as a substantial hippopotamus population. Time is included for optional activities, such as cycling in Hell's Gate National Park, walking amongst the plains game at Crescent Island Sanctuary or partaking in a sumptious afternoon tea at Elsamere, home of Joy Adamsom of 'Born Free' fame. Contrastingly our next destination is the soda lake Lake Nakuru. The shallow alkaline lake that forms the centrepiece of Lake Nakuru National Park attracts millions of flamingos, which form a carpet of pink across the water's surface. There is much more to the park than the lake, and the area is also particularly well-known for its white rhinoceros and leopard.
The children of the East Africa Mission Orphanage provide many smiles and great memories, as we share with them some very special time together. Our final two nights are spent in the shadows of Mount Kenya, amidst tremendous scenery and rich bird life. There are a range of optional activities here cater for most taste and interests, before our safari comes to an end back in Nairobi.
