Day 1Punta ArenasCheck in at Magallanes 990 between 1:00pm and 5:00pm, before boarding the Via Australis at 6:00pm. Meet the Captain and crew over a welcome cocktail reception on board, after which the ship sets sail for Ainsworth Bay. Begin this extraordinary adventure traveling through Beagle Channel and the Strait of Magellan to explore one of the most fascinating wilderness regions in the world: Southern Patagonia, and Tierra del Fuego.
Day 2Tucker IsletAt dawn, continue your journey navigating through Almirantazgo Sound before arriving near Marinelli Glacier in Ainsworth Bay, where you will enjoy a walk through the ancient Magellanic forest. On the beach you will be able to watch a colony of elephant seals. Then, visit Tucker Islet, where you disembark in Zodiacs to observe colonies of Magellanic Penguins and Cormorants. Since the islet's penguins migrate in April, this excursion will be substituted for a visit to Brookes Bay, where you will be taken on a short walk to see a glacier.
Day 3Glacier Alley Pia GlacierToday the Via Australis navigates through the main part of Beagle Channel to reach Pia Bay. Here you will disembark near Pia Glacier and take a short hike to a lookout point offering a magnificent view of the entire glacier tongue - stretching from high in the mountains all the way to the sea. After this unforgettable experience, return to ship and continue sailing along the northwest arm of Beagle Channel through the majestic "Glacier Alley".
Day 4Wulaia BaySail through Beagle and Murray channels to reach and, weather permitting, disembark in Cape Horn National Park, which was declared a World Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in June 2005. The Cape Horn is located on Hornos Island and is known as the fabled "End of the Earth". A visit to this sheer, 425 meter (1,394 foot) high rocky promontory is a truly unique and privileged experience. In the afternoon, you will go ashore in historic Wulaia Bay, once the site of one of the region's largest aboriginal settlements. This area is also famed for the captivating beauty of its vegetation and geography. You will walk through a Magellanic forest of Lengas, Coigues, Canelos, ferns and other native foliage to reach a superb lookout point.
Day 5UshuaiaArrive early in the morning in the Argentinean city of Ushuaia, widely considered to be the southernmost city in the world. Disembarkation is scheduled for 8:00am, giving you ample time to start exploring the city and national parks, and to continue your trip thought Patagonia.
