Mention code 8051223 | | eWaterways | | | | Day | Destination | Description | | Day 1 | Mandalay | After being welcomed on board the Amara River Cruiser, you start your journey upstream on the Ayeyarwady as far as Mingun, where you will see the Mingun Bell, the largest undamaged hanging bell in the world, and the unfinished Mingun Pagoda. From Mingun you continue northwards to Sheinmaga, where the Amara docks for the night. Lunch and Dinner will be taken on the boat. | | Day 2 | Thabeikkyin | It's an early start this morning as you set sail for Thabeikkyin. En route there is a stop at Nwe Nyein which translates as "Pottery Village". After passing through the Third Defile, the riverbanks become more mountainous and from here they are covered with Teak forest and dotted with small villages trading in wood and fish. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served onboard. | | Day 3 | Tagaung | Setting sail at 6am your journey continues upstream until the Amara reaches Tagaung, one of the oldest capitals of Myanmar. Here you will be taken on a tour of the town but there will also be time for you to explore Tagaung on your own. Overnight mooring will be just north of Tagaung. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served on board. | | Day 4 | Katha | This morning you continue your journey northwards along the Ayeyarwady until you reach Katha. Katha's luxuriant vegetation, beauty and unique atmosphere inspired the setting of George Orwell's book "Burmese Days". Spend the evening near the harbour of Katha where the boat will moor tonight. Breakfast, lunch and dinner to be taken on board. | | Day 5 | Shwegu | While sailing up to Shwegu today, keep an eye out for the famous Ayeyarwady Dolphin which is quite common in this area. At Shwegu the Amara will moor on the opposite riverbank, near the pagodas of Shwe Baw Kyunn where you can explore some of the thousands of pagodas built here around the 10th century. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be on board the boat. | | Day 6 | Bamaw | This morning you will re-commence your journey at 8am. Passing the Second Defile you will witness the transformation of the riverbanks from forested hills to steep cliffs. You cannot fail to be enthralled by the breathtaking scenery en route to our final destination of Bamaw (Bhamo). Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be on board the Amara. | | Day 7 | Bamaw | After your final breakfast on board, it is time to bid farewell to the Amara, her Captain and crew, and your fellow passengers as we disembark in Bamaw (Bhamo). |
