12 Day Cruise from Basel to Budapest aboard the Casanova
Newly built in 2001, and refurbished in 2006, the MV Casanova is deluxe, carrying 96 passengers in 48 cabins. She is distinguished by staterooms on her upper deck, which have full-length French doors that open into your cabin (cabins on the lower deck have large windows). Original works of art can be found throughout. All double cabins are identical in size (there are two lower-deck junior suites) and are beautifully appointed with built-in closets, desk, shower and toilet, television, telephone and four-channel radio. A hairdryer and terry robes are available upon request. Bedding is a European-style duvet with feather pillows and eiderdowns (synthetic materials available upon request). Smoking is not allowed in the cabin or in the corridors on our Neckar River Cruise.

The vessel features six meals daily (breakfast, morning bouillon, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner and midnight snack). All meals are single seating in a non-smoking dining room with five-course evening meals (up to nine courses on selected nights). Additionally, there is a bar, Panorama Restaurant, and lounge as well as an infirmary with a qualified doctor on board. The Sun Deck has plenty of deck chairs and blankets, if needed. Captain's Welcome and Captain's Farewell Receptions are provided as well as nightly entertainment and dancing. There is one crew member for every 2.5 passengers providing the best crew-to-passenger ratio of any river vessel. This allows for a high level of service as well as sumptuous food, served course by course for the evening meal. English language announcements, menus and daily programs are provided on our Neckar River Cruise and Main Canal Cruises.

A striking feature of the Danube is a section in Hungary where its course changes abruptly from flowing east to a southerly direction. It's a very scenic part of the country with a cluster of picturesque little towns rising from the river bank up the green hillsides and valleys, each with winding cobbled streets, market squares and brightly colored houses.
Two cities in one, Buda on the hillside and Pest on the flat land across the Danube, this is the city of mineral spas and Turkish baths fed by natural spring water from the surrounding hills. The biggest and most elaborate is the Gellert which now also has a modern outdoor waterpark of recreational pools in the grounds. The Rudas and the Lukacs Baths are more traditional and sunshine streams in through holes in domed roofs above the thermal pools. On the riverbank sits the Parliament building, a vast ornate Gothic masterpiece which dominates the waterfront.
