We recently took a group to Southern Africa (South Africa, Namibia, Botswana and Zambia). It was the trip of a lifetime with experiences that touched us deeply. Our trip started in Capetown where we were met by our very efficient tour director, James. Three full day tours took in the beauty of Cape Peninsula, unique city sights and panoramic views of the "Fairest Cape in the World" from atop Table Mountain. We also visited two wineries and partook dinner with Capetonian families- great camaraderie & opportunity to exchange ideas.
On to Namibia for 4 nights- with the combination of vast pristine wilderness and a small population, Namibia is definitely the land of discovery and soul searching. We enjoyed the desert floor and red dunes, browsed through the many art galleries and coffee shops at the quaint seaside tour of Swakopmund and viewed some of the fascinating rock engravings.
On to Botswana, where an unprecedented level of service, elegance and style awaited us at the Mowana Safari Lodge. We enjoyed several game drives at Tsobe National Park and each time we saw different animals. The elephants were our favorites but the hippos provided enough excitement during our boat ride on the Tsobe river. After 3 relaxing nights at our beautiful lodge, it was time to head for Zambia- home of the Victoria Falls.
The Royal Livingstone Hotel was our home- we enjoyed a walking tour of the mighty falls and an evening sundowner cruise on the Zambezi river. Best sunset we ever saw and the helicopter ride over the falls was the climax. The trip ended in Johannesburg for some and most people went on to Kruger Park and into the heart of "Big Five" country.
So our Safari trip was awesome with touching moments like when we visited a school in Zambia- it was a life changing experience for all of us and made us realize how lucky we are. We kept thinking it couldn't get any better but everyday it did. Good food, good wine and great "elephant safari" not to be forgotten.
