| Day 1 | Accra | Arrive in Accra, where you are assisted and transferred to your hotel. In the afternoon, explore the city of Accra. Visit the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum and museum, a tribute to Ghana's first president. Walk through Independence Square, Accra's open air ceremonial grounds. View the historical artifacts and exhibits of modern life in the National Museum, and learn about the life of W.E.B. Du Bois, one of the most prominent Pan-Africanists who lived and worked in Ghana at the center that honors his memory and achievements. | Day 2 | Accra | This morning, continue your tour of Accra , the nation's capital. Learn the culture and history of the indigenous people of the capital. View Ghana's Parliament House and the only International Conference Center in the country. The tour continues through Independence Avenue to see landmark buildings, including the President's house, the British settlements, the Later Day Saints and the Mormons Church. | Day 3 | Kumasi | In the morning, depart Accra to Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti Kingdom. Visit Manhiya Palace, which remains in use by the Asantehene (the ruler of the Ashanti people) today and houses a small historical museum. | Day 4 | Kumasi | In the morning, see the Okomfo Anokye Sword, an important symbol of Ashanti unity that marks the spot where the Golden Stool descended from the sky and has been in place for 300 years. Legend says the Ashanti Kingdom would collapse should the sword ever be removed. Visit Ashanti craft villages. Learn how the talented craftsmen fashion royal stools, walking sticks and fertility dolls from wood. Observe up close the creation of the adinkra cloth which is worn for funerals and other solemn occasions. Later visit Bonfire, where you will discover how the kente weavers create the famous kente cloth, which is handmade on looms in a time-honored tradition. | Day 5 | Cape Coast | After breakfast, depart Kumasi to Cape Coast. En-route, stop at Assin Manso, the burial site of two former slaves from the U. S. and Jamaica whose remains were re-interred in August 1998 during Ghana's first Emancipation Day Celebration. Visit the "Slave River" where captured Africans were washed before being confined in the Slave Castles to await shipment to the Americas and the Caribbean. | Day 7 | Cape Coast | After breakfast, tour Elmina Castle, also a UNESCO World Heritage site built in 1482. This castle was the first European structure in sub-Saharan Africa. | Day 8 | Cape Coast | Early morning drive to Kakum National Park, one of West Africa's surviving tropical rain forests. Extending over 360sq km, Kakum is the home to over 40 large mammals and 400 bird species as well as many species of butterflies, flora and fauna. The most popular attraction is the Canopy walkway, which is made up of seven bridges extending 330m, hanging 30m (100 feet) above the forest floor. Choose between a 2 km nature walk through this forest to discover the wide variety of exotic floral species and the medicinal values they offer, or take a walk on the canopy walkway.
