Enjoy a walking tour with a Local Guide and see the impressive ramparts, erected during the Crusades to protect the town against land attacks, and the Franciscan and Dominican monasteries. |Day 3||Sarajevo||Enter Bosnia-Herzegovina and stop in the city of Mostar. Admire the OLD BRIDGE, the city's symbol, ordered by Suleiman the Magnificent, the Ottoman ruler in 1566, to replace the older wooden bridge. Continue to Sarajevo, where the 1984 Olympics took place, and the first city in Europe to own an electric tram network. (B,D)|
|Day 4||Sarajevo||Hear about the assassination of the Archduke of Austria in 1914, the recent Bosnian War, and see the main sights with a Local Guide. [LF] A visit has been included to the SARAJEVO TUNNEL, built between 1992 and 1995 during the Bosnian War to supply the inhabitants with food and war supplies. |Day 6||Belgrade||First mention of Belgrade was in the 3rd century. Morning guided sightseeing features a drive to see the main sights, like the Santa Sava Church and a walking tour through the fascinating Kalemegdan Fortress, located at the confluence of the Danube and Sava Rivers, and symbol of the strategic importance of the city in the past. |Day 7||Sibiu||In Timisoara, admire the Romanian Orthodox Church, seat of the archbishop, before arriving in elegant Sibiu with its towers, churches, and buildings dating back to the 14th century. (B,D)|
|Day 8||Brasov||Enter the heart of Transylvania and stop at the fortified town of Sighisoara, one of the most beautiful, well-preserved inhabited citadels in Eastern Europe. Continue to Brasov, where guided sightseeing features the Old Town Hall, the Merchants' Hall, the 15th-century Monastery and School of St. Nicholas, a walk through the Old Town, and a visit to the impressive BLACK CHURCH. |Day 10||Bucharest||Morning sightseeing with a Local Guide features a drive along flower-festooned parks, gardens, and wide boulevards shaded by century-old trees. Also see the palace where Ceausescu, the former Romanian dictator, lived, and visit the impressive PEOPLE'S PALACE, the second-largest government building in the world after the Pentagon. (B)|
|Day 11||Sofia||Stop in Ruse, Bulgaria's most important river port and nicknamed 'Little Vienna' because of its neo-baroque and neo-rococo architecture. Arrive in Sofia, proud capital of Bulgaria. (B,D)|
|Day 12||Sofia||Hear about the history of this fascinating city during your guided sightseeing tour. Sofia was known as Serdica centuries before Christ, and was even ruled at one time by Alexander the Great's father, Philip of Macedonia. Visit the HOLY SOFIA CHURCH. (B)|
|Day 13||Thessalonika||Head south to reach the village of Kocherinovo, from where [LF] a scenic trip takes you high up towards the RILA MONASTERY, a beacon of the Bulgarian nation during a half-millennium of Ottoman rule. The monastery is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, because throughout the centuries, it has always been the spiritual, educational, and cultural center of Bulgaria. Continue through the Struma Valley, Spartacus' mountainous homeland, before crossing the Greek border and arriving in Thessalonika. (B,D)|
|Day 14||Athens||During your guided sightseeing, see the White Tower; the Arch of Galerious, the biggest triumphal arch of the Roman Empire; the Rotonda; and visit the BASILICA OF SAINT DEMETRIOUS. Enjoy a panoramic view of the city and the bay from the walls of the Upper City. On the way to Athens, drive along the eastern and southern side of Mount Olympus and through the battlefield of Leonidas and the 300, the Spartan forces he led during the Second Persian War and the famous Battle of Thermopylae. |Day 15||Athens||Sightseeing with a Local Guide features a visit to the world-famous ACROPOLIS, perched high on a rocky outcrop overlooking the city. Here, see the Parthenon, the Erechtheum with its Porch of Maidens, the Temple of Athena Nike, and enjoy a panoramic view that includes glimpses of the Temple of Olympian Zeus, Theater of Dionysus, and the beautifully preserved Theseum, where Socrates taught. Later, a city orientation tour features the Old Parliament House and a picture stop at the Panathenaic Stadium. Built in the 2nd century AD, it is the only stadium in the world built entirely of marble, and was host to the opening and closing ceremonies of the first modern Olympics in 1896. Booking your Vacation with Air
For air departure dates within 331 days, you'll be offered a choice of carriers and flight schedules as well as price points to choose from when selecting your flights. Your schedule will be provided to you at the time of booking (schedules are subject to change by carriers). Globus offers 2 air options: Flex Air and Instant Purchase Air. Flex Air allows flexibility if you want to make changes to your vacation schedule. Instant Purchase Air may offer additional airline options but has more restrictions. Some vacations may only offer one Air type option. Guaranteed air-inclusive prices: air is only available to passengers traveling from the United States and only available when booked in conjunction with a land vacation. An additional $300 per person non-refundable air deposit is required for Flex Air booked in conjunction with any land vacation (i.e. air-inclusive vacation). Air can only be booked by Globus in conjunction with a vacation package. Instant Purchase Air requires air payment in full at time of booking (i.e. air-inclusive vacation) plus non-refundable per person service fee ($30 for North/Central America, $50 for Europe/Middle East and $80 for all other destinations. Once booked, Instant Purchase Air is non-refundable, and non-changeable. Some vacations may only offer one Air type option. However, once your airfare is confirmed and Globus has received your full air and land deposit, your air-inclusive vacation price is guaranteed.
Air-Inclusive Vacations - Applicable Taxes & Fees
Air-inclusive vacations include government-imposed taxes and fees applicable at the time of booking and will be shown as a Total Amount. Additional airline fees for baggage may apply. At the time of booking your air-inclusive vacation online, carrier Websites will be provided to check baggage fees, or you can visit www.iflybags.com for up-to-date baggage pricing/restrictions. For return travel from some countries, international travelers are required to pay entry and/or exit fees at the airport. These fees will be collected by the local government and are payable by the traveler at time of travel. Your confirmation booking information will contain information about these fees.
