| Day 3 | St. Moritz | Zurich - Chur - St. Moritz : This morning we have an orientation tour of lakeside Zurich, revealing its charm and beauty. Then we take our train via Chur to St. Moritz, the sophisticated mountain resort, passing snow-capped mountains and sparkling lakes. This evening dinner is at our hotel. | Day 4 | Zermatt | St. Moritz - Glacier Express - Zermatt (2 nights) : All aboard one of the most spectacular train journeys in the world - the immensely comfortable air-cushioned and air-conditioned Glacier Express! An 8-hour railway journey across 291 bridges, through 91 tunnels and across the Oberalp Pass at 2,033 meters in altitude. We travel along a beautiful route passing Alpine lakes and glaciers en route to the unique resort of Zermatt, dominated by the Matterhorn. We will walk the short distance to our charming hotel where tonight we will enjoy dinner. Afterwards, it's fun to explore the chalets and bars of this lively winter and summer resort! | Day 5 | Zermatt | Zermatt at leisure : Our Tour Director will show us around this charming car-free resort and will also show us one of the Hidden Treasures of the town! Time to relax in the clean mountain air or window shop or maybe take a cable-car ride to have even more stunning views of the Alpine landscapes. (Buffet breakfast / Dinner) |
| Day 6 | Geneva | Zermatt - Geneva : This morning's train journey takes us out of German-speaking Switzerland to the international city of Geneva on the lake of the same name. Capital city of the Suisse Romande (French-speaking Switzerland) containing the headquarters of a number of international organizations such as the Red Cross, Geneva is a fascinating city to visit. We'll enjoy an orientation tour highlighting the Reformation Monument, the Flower Clock and the Jet d'Eau. We will also enjoy a short walking tour of the old town. Later, you may wish to enjoy a delicious dinner of Swiss specialties in a restaurant overlooking a view of Europe's highest mountain - Mont Blanc! See our Tour Director for advice on where to eat dinner this evening. (Buffet breakfast) Hotel: Cornavin |
| Day 7 | Lucerne | Geneva - Interlaken - Lucerne (2 nights) : We enjoy another stunning day of scenery as we depart from Geneva on our train, which takes the Golden Pass route. We disembark from the train in Interlaken in the heart of the Swiss Alps, beautifully situated between the glassy lakes of Thun and Brienz, and at the foot the famous trio of peaks, the Eiger, the Monch and the Jungfrau. Here we have time to relax and enjoy the superb views of the peaks of the Bernese Oberland, so beloved of Queen Victoria who often stayed in Interlaken. We reboard the train to travel on through the Brunig Pass to lakeside Lucerne in central Switzerland for our leisurely two-night stay. | Day 8 | Lucerne | Lucerne orientation & at leisure : After breakfast we enjoy an orientation tour around this medieval city highlighting the poignant Lion Monument, built in memory of Louis XVI's Swiss Guard, and the covered wooden Chapel Bridge which spans the River Reuss and is decorated inside with wooden panels which chronicle the history of Lucerne. Later with time on your own, you may wish to take an optional excursion to a nearby mountain peak, famed for its splendid views. Maybe ascend Stanzerhorn by cogwheel railway and cablecar with wonderful views of the alpine pastures. Or perhaps choose to explore the old city and shop for Swiss watches, cuckoo clocks and delicious Swiss chocolates. Tonight we will all get together with our Tour Director for our final night and enjoy a Farewell Dinner with wine in a local restaurant! (Buffet breakfast / Farewell dinner) |
| Day 9 | Return USA | Lucerne - Zurich - USA : This morning after breakfast it is time to bid farewell to Switzerland, our Tour Director and our new-found friends as our Swiss vacation comes to an end. We are given tickets by our Tour Director for the short train journey from Lucerne to Zurich Airport which we can take at our convenience for our onward journey homewards. (Buffet breakfast) |
