Sydney & Uluru/Ayers Rock
After a day in vibrant, confident Sydney we fly across the vast Outback to Yulara. From here we take in an awesome array of natural wonders: the red domes of Kata Tjuta/The Olgas, the "amphitheatre" at Kings Canyon, plus of course the imposing majesty of Uluru/Ayers Rock itself. Heading north we come to the Devil's Marbles, where erosion has created enormous spherical granite boulders - the eggs of the Rainbow Serpent, according to aboriginal legend
Katherine Gorge & Kakadu
Next we drive on to Katherine, where we can explore the dramatic gorge on foot or by boat. In Kakadu, famous for its wildlife and aboriginal rock paintings, we learn about the extraordinary culture of Australia's first inhabitants at Nourlangie, and take a boat trip on the Yellow Water Billabong, home to the native crocodile. Finally we travel via Litchfield National Park to Darwin where the tour ends. See red route on map.
Itinerary:
Day 1 Join the tour in Sydney with optionals including Opera House & Harbour Bridge. Days 2/4 Uluru/Ayers Rock Flying to Yulara we take in an awesome array of natural wonders: the red domes of Kata Tjuta/The Olgas, the "amphitheatre" at Kings Canyon, plus of course the imposing majesty of Uluru/Ayers Rock itself. Days 5/7 MacDonnell Ranges Driving to Alice Springs we explore the rugged gorges of the West MacDonnell Ranges. Days 8/9 Devil's Marbles We discover enormous spherical granite boulders - the eggs of the Rainbow Serpent, according to aboriginal legend, before heading to Daly Water. Day 10/11 Kakadu National Park Continuing north we reach Katherine Gorge and on to Kakadu where we take a boat trip on the Yellow Water Billabong. Days 12/13 Darwin Finally we travel via Litchfield National Park to end out tour in the city of Darwin. Day 14 Tour ends in Darwin.
Accommodation: 11nts camping, 2nts hotels - campsites have basic, fixed ablutions; no meals, a food kitty system is used for camp food.
Transport: Bus/Kakadu boat trip /Flight as Itinerary (note: international flight airport transfers in Sydney & Darwin not included).
Comment: Bring a sleeping bag, a sense of adventure and be prepared for some rough roads in the Outback. Walks are easy but conditions can be hot.
