Mission Statement and Goals

Mission

It is the mission of the Giddings Economic Development Corporation to facilitate, lead, and promote organized economic growth in order to improve the quality of life and to protect and create jobs through innovative and conventional programs in our community.

The Giddings Economic Development Corporation (GEDC) is responsible for developing and implementing an overall economic development plan for the City of Giddings. The objective of this plan is to permanently bolster the business climate through the city and fully utilize the city's assets to enhance economic growth.

 

Goals & Objectives 2011-2012

 
GEDC Goal 1: 
 
Create Higher Wage Industry Jobs -Giddings EDC will develop a favorable business climate for the Giddings area to create higher wage industry job opportunities that will facilitate economic wealth for the community. 

 

  • Higher wage jobs are those paying 200% of minimum wage and offer employee benefits
  • GEDC will budget $70,980 for fiscal year 2011-2012 for long term goals & projects
  • GEDC will actively recruit businesses for higher wage job creation in the following industries: Oil & Gas; Automotive and transportation; Manufacturing; Service, Warehousing & Distribution
  • GEDC will create 20 new higher wage jobs in fiscal year 2011 - 2012

 

GEDC Goal 2:

Business Retention, Expansion & Recruitment - GEDC will further develop a business Retention, Expansion & Recruitment program  for the Giddings area to evaluate the local business climate, offer assistance to employers through meetings or actions pertaining to economic development guidelines and incentives, hiring, training and other appropriate activity relating to expansion, relocation,  recruitment, and attract targeted industry to increase the local tax base, sales tax collection and to create or retain jobs

 

  • GEDC will implement the campaign offering businesses incentive to utilize empty commercial buildings
  • GEDC will actively utilize marketing campaign for Giddings as a pro business community
  • GEDC will increase budgeted sales tax collections by $40,000 above budgeted sales tax collections for previous fiscal year 2010-2011
  • GEDC will create/retain 30 jobs in fiscal year 2011 - 2012
  • GEDC will visit eight businesses per month and provide them with the wide array of resources available

 

GEDC Goal 3:

Tourism Exit Plan  – GEDC willwork with the Giddings Area Chamber of Commerce, Friends Of The Depot – Giddings, Texas, Giddings Volunteer Fire Department and other tourism groups, to implement a plan for GEDC to transition / exit from tourism activities, specifically the Rural Texas Tourism Center; Union Station Transportation Museum and Firemen’s Park Management.

 

  • GEDC will exit tourism by end of fiscal year 2013-2014
