San Francisco & Lakes Area
Pausing to enjoy the vibrant atmosphere and sites of San Francisco, we absorb the rich cultural mix and breathe in the fresh bay air, before heading east toward the Sierra Nevada.

Yosemite & Death Valley
Reaching Yosemite, we'll explore its rushing rivers and scented forests on foot. Here we find the sheer granite slabs of El Capitan and Half Dome - nearly vertical and rising 1219m above the valley floor. We'll see a forest sanctuary where giant Sequoias are preserved. Next we visit Bodie, a ghost town from the Gold Rush period, before driving south in the shadow of the Sierra Nevada. Crossing the barren landscapes of Death Valley we head for the surreal and flamboyant city of Las Vegas.

Zion, Bryce & Grand Canyon
We'll hike beneath the cathedral-like cliffs of Zion National Park and through the eroded moonscape of Bryce Canyon. We explore Arches and Canyonlands National Parks before visiting the Navajo Reservation area to see the sandstone buttes of Monument Valley. We'll also spend time at the Grand Canyon in awe of the vast size of this wondrous chasm, created millions of years ago by the turbulent Colorado river. Finishing our journey, we drive via Joshua Tree National Park to Los Angeles.

Itinerary:

Day 1 Join tour in San Francisco. Day 2 San Francisco We visit San Fran's highlights including the Golden Gate bridge. Days 4/5 Yosemite National Park We head east to discover the trails, waterfalls and panoramic views of this great wilderness. Days 6/7 Sierra Nevada Mountains Crossing one of the spectacular passes, we discover the high sierras and the gold rush ghost town of Bodie. Day 8 Las Vegas Descending into Death Valley we drive to Las Vegas, where's there's time to wander "The Strip" and chance your luck in a casino. Days 9/10 Zion National Park We head to Zion, a great walk here is along the Zion Narrows, splashing through the Virgin River. Day 11 Bryce Canyon We explore the canyon scared landscape on foot. Days 12/13 Arches National Park Continuing to Moab we walk amongst delicate rock arches and visit Canyonlands. There's also time to try white water rafting or mountain biking (optional). Day 14 Monument Valley A backdrop made famous by cowboy films, and time to visit a Navajo Reservation (optional). Days 15/16 Grand Canyon Created millions of years ago by the Colorado River, enjoy jaw dropping views and the chance for a helicopter over flight. Day 17 Route 66 Today we drive along the famous and historic Route 66. Days 18/19 Los Angeles After visiting Joshua Tree National Park, we head to Los Angeles where there's time to visit Universal Studios or the Getty Centre (optional). Day 20 Tour ends in Los Angeles.

Accommodation: 5nts hotel; 14nts camping; generally at campsites with good facilties, although on some nights we'll get off the beaten track and camp in the wild. You are expected to assist with camp chores, such as the preparation of meals. 14 breakfasts, 8 lunches & 8 dinners included.
Transport: Maxiwagon.
Comment: : A participation camping adventure into the great outdoors. Be prepared for a few long driving days. Some activities are demanding but these are optional.
