French River Barge Cruise Itinerary:

Day 1 Saturday-Paris/Auxerre
Meet at the Hotel Regina for a 2:15 pm departure and motorcoach transfer to Auxerre. The crew of the Litote will welcome you on board with cocktails. Then enjoy some free time before dinner to stroll around the old town. Dinner on board. (D)

Day 2 Sunday-Auxerre/Gurgy
Enjoy a morning walking visit of Auxerre and the magnificent monuments bearing witness to the city's glorious past- the handsome Gothic cathedral with a Romanesque crypt; the celebrated Benedictine abbey with a Carolingian crypt whose beautiful frescoes are among the oldest in France; and the 17th-century clock tower. After lunch, cruise along the river Yonne to the village of Gurgy. Dinner on board this evening. (B, L, D)

Day 3 Monday-Gurgy/Saint-Florentin
Cruise on the Burgundy Canal with a chance to cycle or walk along the towpath visiting a host of charming villages. Moor at Saint-Florentin, a little market town with its handsome church and 16th-century stained-glass windows. After lunch, enjoy an excursion to the renowned Chablis wine region with a wine tasting session in a private cellar in the beautiful village of Saint-Bris-le-Vineux. (B, L, D)

Day 4 Tuesday-Saint-Florentin/Tonnerre
After breakfast, cruise to the village of Flogny, where lunch is enjoyed before moving on to Tonnerre. Afternoon visit of the old wine town of Tonnerre to see the blue-green water of the 'Fosse Dionne,' the old hospital founded in 1293, and the quaint medieval streets. New vineyards planted around the nearby village of Epineuil produce quality red wines. Dinner on board. (B, L, D)

Day 5 Wednesday-Tonnerre/Tanlay
Cruise along a lovely stretch of the canal to Tanlay. After lunch, set off on an excursion to the historic village of Vezelay, one of the crowning glories of Burgundy. Visit the impressive basilica of Sainte Madeleine which dates back to the 10th century, the Chateau Terrace with a superb view over the narrow, winding streets lined with delightful old houses. Dinner on board. (B, L, D)

Day 6 Thursday-Tanlay/Ancy-le-Franc
Visit to the Chateau of Tanlay, built in 1550, and a fine example of the French Renaissance style and a magnificent architectural composition. Afternoon cruise through old stone villages to Ancy-le-Franc, which features a fine 16th-century chateau. Farewell gala dinner on board. (B, L, D)

Day 7 Friday-Ancy-le-Franc/Paris
After breakfast, you will be transferred back to Paris, arriving at the Hotel Regina at approximately 1 pm. (B)
