Turkey's Aegean Coast is a land of contrasts, where beach resorts and bikini-clad bathers vie with traditional bazaars and vendors selling thick Turkish coffee. The past is omnipresent in the ruins of Hellenic culture which once flowered throughout much of Asia Minor. Explore ancient Pergamon, one of the greatest cities in Hellenic history. Founded by Alexander the Great's general Lysimanus, Pergamon was renowned for its library, which was bigger than Alexandria's, and its Asclepian, where the Greek physician Galen supposedly never lost a patient!
